Remember when X was known to be a platform where literary geniuses and officials would talk about productive things? Well, good old days. Nowadays X is all about trolls, fake posts, and offending people.
Back when Musk took over X, most people thought this would be the start of a new era and surely, it was. While most experts were expecting it to be a mindboggling, tech-on-steroids kind of change, it soon turned into something worse that most people never expected.
From offending people with tweets to putting verification for sale and changing the name to a premium subscription, Musk has been on a spree to tell the story of decline. According to experts, X will soon be replaced but it will not be a death from replacement, instead it will be a suicide.
After Facebook became a big hit, everyone thought social media and tech would become the next big thing. Tech startups started popping up left and right and we saw a spark in tech billionaires within days. We also saw people starting businesses from the comfort of their homes, all thanks to affordable internet connections like Xfinity.
This put a seal of approval from all but soon after came the tech crash. Now we are seeing tech products dying left right and center.
5 Reasons X is Dying
Most of the tech products are either being replaced by the better version or they are losing their charm because of feature issues. The latest addition to this ever-long list is X formally known as Twitter. As X is struggling now more than ever, most experts and users are curious, how can such a big company die when it has a billionaire tech guru at its side?
If you are also curious, here are some of the reasons that X is dying a painful death:
Premium features
Right after Musk took over the company, he rolled out premium features exclusively for paid customers. Even the verification badge was put out for sale. While this was a good move from investors’ and business’s points of view, it was bad for the users.
Now, X has become the only platform that charges users for its features and has a class system as well. This feature is identical to LinkedIn but the only difference is that LinkedIn is meant for professionals.
Losing Ad Revenue
After the CEO of X posted a tweet about the ongoing Palestine-Israel conflict, most of the Jew-owned tech companies and brands have pulled their ads from the platform. Companies as big as Apple, IBM, Disney, and Warner Brothers are on the list.
While most experts see it as a sign to apologize and let bygones be bygones, Musk further fueled the fire by telling them to take their businesses elsewhere and never come back. With the ads pullout fiasco, X has lost a big chunk of revenue and is currently struggling to stay afloat.
Strict Censorship
X’s takeover started from a basic claim of keeping freedom of expression intact. While most of the other social media sites play with an algorithm, censoring and blocking data from people without them knowing, the X CEO has a habit of saying things aloud.
So far, he has openly confessed to using AI to censor and filter out content, which reflects badly on X as a brand. In fact, X layout post censorship has become an ad dump, with irrelevant tweets and useless ads pasted everywhere. To make matters worse, X has no nudity filter, which is the reason it has become one of the top sites for OnlyFans stars.
Multiple Competitors
While social media was seen as a saturated market right from the get-go, recently it has become a tougher category to crack. Now that X is slowly losing its charm because of the premium user category, most of the users want to switch to a better option.
To lure these disappointed customers, platforms like Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon are coming into the arena. These platforms offer the same features but they either are backed by big tech companies or already have a parent company as big as X. While they have failed to gain the same number of active users as X, these social media platforms are taking notes from Twitter on what to avoid. There is a high chance that in the future one of these sites will take the lead replacing Twitter.
Bad Advertisement
X overestimated its importance without looking at its competitors. One thing that will haunt X forever is its mistake of going back on its words. Musk has repeatedly and openly claimed that he will not censor things on the internet but a few months down the lane, he openly confessed that things posted on X will be censored.
This is not just one incident, instead, this points out the trend of Musk repeating the same mistake. Moreover, Musk has failed to separate businesses from political views unlike most of the other social media sites. From openly declaring hate for the Trans community to taking a stance in favor of Palestine, his businesses are installed with his political views causing him to lose billions.
Wrap Up
The bad days of X (Formerly known as Twitter) are coming but the platform has no one to blame. Currently, tech experts are saying that it is high time for Musk to take things seriously or stay prepared to lose it all.
